Christmas shopping doesn’t have to be all shameless materialism and unwanted bobbly jumpers (though you can find plenty of these at the Rokit Xmas Jumper Sale). Here, in chronological order, are some ideas for finding unique work by fantastic Hackney artists, and shopping with a conscience with funds going to local projects and charities. Telly ceramic judge and renowned artist Kate Malone flings open the doors of her lovely De Beauvoir studio for a sale of work by her and other potters.

Panto themed Xmas Market, Sutton House

This 500-year-old property opens its venerable doors to sell an array of Christmassy goodies made by local artists, ceramicists and card makers.

Hoxton Hall Christmas Market

Mulled wine, mince pies, face painting, readings and tons of handmade gifts and vintage collectables, in this lovely old music hall.
